Horses in Watercolor
Category: Art and Photography
I get asked all the time about my watercolor methods and how I do this or that to create a painting. So I have the brilliant idea to video myself doing a watercolor and make it available online. I am walking downstairs looking at my long-unused video camera, trying to remind myself how it works, and I slip near the bottom and roll my ankle.
At first I think it might be broken, but then after limping around a bit I realize that I wouldn't be limping at all if it were. In fact, I wouldn't be walking. Since the new watercolor is of a nice paint gelding, I want to put
Clifford in the video with me.
I hobble out to the barn and explain the situation. "Clifford," I tell him. "My foot hurts but I am going to do this anyway. I would appreciate it if you took this into account today."
The ankle hurts too much to use stirrups, so I decide I had better ride him bareback. I don't have a mounting block, so I lead him up to the horse trailer so I can climb up on the wheel well. He goofs around a little bit at first, but finally allows me to climb aboard. I NEVER ride him bareback. Even after all these years, I am at best a mediocre rider, and he is a notorious trickster. I can see myself flying off, but to my surprise, he is a perfect gentleman. No practical jokes, no running in place, no quick turns just to gauge my reaction and get me to scream or laugh, even though it's a new situation. Clifford is a true friend.
The
video turned out pretty good! Since I have to keep Clifford and Trudy in oats this winter I decided to charge $10 for it. But it's got the answers for people who have asked how I mix colors, what type of brushes I use and some other cool extra tips.
