imagine spacers between your teeth. that is what they are. just like human braces, you get used to them. but the pressure against the gums when a horse goes to grab on and crib, or wind suck is uncomf b/c it pushes against the gums. i believe that if you can find something that works for your horse... go for it... but i tried everything. and that collar is horr. tried sprays and such, but nothing worked. poor spirits frount teeth were getting worn down. this has worked for him. i really don't think he is in any pain. i for one would be the 1st person to remove them myself if i saw any indication.

my vet's name is charlene cook. i only use charlene. not only is she a great vet, but a terrific rider and horsewoman. i really recommend her.

there is nothing on the page about the procedure, but you can shoot them an email for info. if it were me, i'd give your vet dr cooks ph # and ask her to call for info.

There is a horse at our farm that just got cribbing rings about a month ago.  They stopped him for about, oh, fifteen seconds.  He cribs right through the pain and is still skinny as a rail.  That poor horse needs a metal muzzle, but his owners......well, not that attentive, sadly.  He is beginning to look like a rescue horse, and he's a gorgeous 4 year old OTTB.  Rings were a big fat USELESS no-go on him.
