I thought since show season is in full swing now, it might be a good idea to start a thread on what tricks we use to tie back our hair to give that polished look! I have a hard time because my hair is so thick.

I have shoulder length hair and I make 2 low pony tails. I then clip each pony tail up to the side. I use a strong hair net and hair spray to hold all the small pieces in place.

I have hair half way down my back and so i twist it into a really tight bun then put the hair net over and put a hair elastic over it around the bun and then use hair grips for any whispy bits

I have mine french braided really tight cause I have to sleep in it the night before - Then just use alot of hairspray for the sticky outies in the morning - Take one of Bubba's black elastic braid bands and loop it up, band it and off I go

I find that keeping my hair about 1/2inch long is the easiest option. LOL!!! At least there is one advantage to being male in English riding disciplines.

I keep my hair cut très short - one inch at the most
No hairnets, elastic bands, or hairspray required

One thing that works great is Quik Braid! Use like hairspray, it works!

Mine varies in length from jaw to shoulder, or maybe a bit longer if I get lazy. This means I've used anything from a hairnet and a couple of bobby pins to a "show bow" (quick and easy works for me, and I'm just uncomfortable with putting it under my helmet... ever) or even the Jill Henselwood pony-tail. Only in jumpers, of course.

Jill Henselwood's hair drives me nuts! I've noitced some of the Swiss Jumper riders only put their's in a pony tail too. Everytime the go over a jump if flips and flops all over the place. I get so distracted by the hair, I forget to watch everything else!

Ya know.. I've never tried Quick Braid, not even for my horses. Does it really work and what does it do? Is it the same as hairspray? I usually just use spray gel in their mane when I'm done.

When I had long hair I'd braid it and the use a snood (barrette with hair net).

In November I got it cut and donated it to Locks of Love (http://www.locksoflove.org/). So it was shorter than shoulder length. It's grown out to almost shoulder length now (I got it trimmed on Thursday and some is longer some is shorter....layers yay!)

So, now I shove in that hair net (like the hunter people kind of hair nets) any way that I can.

I so agree with you about the flip-flop ponytails
Even at lower levels (& even schooling) I can't focus on anything but the hair whirligig
My instructor used to require hairnets of her long-haired students even for lessons.

I put mine up in a tight bun, and put a hair net around that. I use lots of bobby pins and an absolutely rediculous amount of hairspray! Aqua-net is the best hairspray for shows!

French Braid, then pin that up, and use a TON of hairspray to keep the fly away's from happening!!!Lol!

i get my best friends mom to french braid (cuz i am no good at it lol) then she braids the rest of it and rolls it under, kinda like a braid you would put in a jumpers mane, lol, its cute. and it doesnt mess with my helmet either!

It's been awhile since I"ve shown riding... but that will change in two weeks! And my hair is shorter now.. I have layers from my chin down to below my shoulder... so I guess I need to buy bobbie pins and hairspray! But here are some pics from when it was a little longer, I used a barret/net thing, 2 bobbie pins (one on each side to hold my shorter layers, which were a lot longer than they are now) and hair gel (which is what I use on the mini's forelocks so it's always with me at shows hehe)
