    Leg problem

Hey I'm kinda new here, but that's not why I'm posting. This is kind of like an emergency post, if you will.

This morning I went out to the barn to do my chores for my 22 year old saddlebred mare Sadie. Recently she had hoof abcess (sp?), and that was on her right foreleg. That's pretty much healed now. But when I took Sadie out of her stall I noticed her left foreleg was really swollen above her fetlock. It was filled halfway up to her knee. There is also like a hard knob on her tedons. Can any one tell me what this might be. She moves around fine and her appitites the same. Confused

she is moving fine ? wow - what about a reaction to a bug bite or something ? hopefully someone else will have a better idea.

Does the swelling feel hot? While you're feeling for heat, also run your fingers all over the swollen area, feeling for a thorn or splinter.

If there's heat, given that she's not lame I'd suspect an infection rather than an injury; if the swelling gets worse or persists until Monday I'd call the vet.

Regardless of what you find, at this point I'd probably hose it at least a couple of times a day and watch it carefully.

I wonder if she may have 'popped' a splint. That is the only thing I can think of.

Thanks, and I also thought maybe it was just her leg being "stocked up". Becuase I hadn't riden her for a few days and she's a stabled horse. But I'm not really sure about that little knob on her cannon. That's where I thought it could be splints. So I'm going to wait a few days and get back to riding and see if the swelling goes down. I don't think there's any heat from her leg and she reacts normally to flies there on her leg.
