Saturday I bought my first bridle. I didn't realized this at the time; the curb strap was oiled (Weaver Leather). I went to the local tack shop to ask about this (not the same place as where I bougt the bridle; that store is too far to visit for a while.). One of the girls there said that the oil on their products can be very overwhelming and that it would wear off with time and use.

Now I'm completely overwhelmed by the amount of brands and different products for leather care. Can anyone suggest a good leather cleaner/ or conditioner that won't break the wallet?? Thank you all for you help in advance.

I clean my tack with Murphy's Oil Soap and Water, and a toothbrush. 

 Let dry, then dress with which ever brand of leather product you prefer.

 I use Steuben cream.

I love Lexol, but only use a bit at a time of the conditioner or it can get sticky.

Thanks everyone! I know for sure that both of my local tackshops carry Lexol. I will ask about this before I go to the barn tomorrow.

I like the Lexol products. My saddle is pretty ancient now and it's held up well with regular cleaning and conditioning.

The only stuff I use on my tack is Skidmore's Leather Cream - I get mine from goligerleather.com for about $10/17 oz can. It's well worth the $$ spent on it. I won't use Horseman's One Step or Lexol on anything after using Skidmore's.

Is Skidmore's availible in stores, or only online? I still haven't been to the tackshop yet. Since I'm working tomorrow afternoon, I'll be stoping by there.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. I bought a bottle of Lexol (thought that the wipes would be a waste). If I'm unhappy with this product, I have a friend who I could sell the remainder to since she's almost out . I'm still searching to see if Skidmore's has their own site so I could learn more about it. I was unable to find any at my tack shop, good news is if you want it they will get it for you!

I used car leather wipes to clean my saddles and the did great.  i need to get into my tooling better, but im going to get something to se a q~tip  with and dip it in and go through the tooling!  My saddles are cleaner and they have stayed cleaner after using the wipes.

Leather CPR is a life saver... lol thats almost funny. I also use bickmore and murphys oil soap

Yeah I definately reccommend Lexol. I have some and I love it! lol speaking of Saddle Soap, I have to go buy some more of that soon. lol
