Fantastic tip for bandaging a hoof

Check this out.  I've had horses for 30 years and never thought of this!

    Me neither, not the ducttape.

But she forgot to mention one important thing: You need a very calm and patient horse to properly apply this. Big Smile

Yup, that's how I wrap abscesses.  My farrier showed me that little duct tape trick.  He had me leave the coronary uncovered though.  Works really well, although the toe wears through really quick, so I did lots of reinforcing layers there.

i can't get the page to load, but I use duct tape too.  I came up with the special way though...one loop around the out side of the hoof, but with a slight over lap.  Push the over lap down (onto the bottom of the hoof).  Then, taking 5-6 pieces that you've already torn off of the roll (and stuck to your own leg) cover the entire hoof. Add a couple extra strips for the toe and then do another 2 complete wrap arounds.

This is secure, easy to remove (for you!) and not lumpy for the horse.  It's also a lot neater looking than just wrapping around and around, and around with duct tape.
