Going to copy/paste some things from my marestare thread to catch you up on Sierra... and Tracker since I've mentioned him here.
Sierra started breathing heavy like Tracker, though not as bad....
Her temp is 102, the high end of normal for a foal, but also what it was when vet checked her. She is still breathing kinda hard? I mean, looking at her face you couldn't tell, no nostrils flaring, but from her abdomen you can see it.
At this point I'm not sure what to do... temp is fine, nursing fine, so I'm thinking maybe wait until the morning? Sigh I don't know!...
Ok, her temp is down to 101.3. It is cooler this morning than it was last night (yup, even in the middle of the night!) so that makes sense. She is still doing the funny breathing. It's like what Tracker has been doing, only much less than he. Vet opens in a couple hours, so I will get some more sleep (well, attempt... I kept waking constantly to look at her!) and call my vet after her next meds and another temp check to see what she wants me to do.
Speaking of Tracker, he looks better today (still funny breathing but not as bad) and he ate a good portion of his food!
If anyone sees baby run around or do anything frisky in the next couple hours, please let me know...
WAHOO I JSUT SAW HER RUN ACROSS THE STALL!!!!!! HUGE load lifted! (I will still consult with vet in couple hours, but now I think I can sleep those couple hours!)...
was about to go out when vet called.
Told her about Sierra, and she said at this point to not worry. Just keep an eye on her and keep checking her temp. If she stops/decreases nursing, or if her temp goes over 102.5 to call. She also said Tracker's blood work is ok. His WBC isn't as high as she expected, and his inflammatory enzymes are high as expected. She said she sees no reason why he won't overcome this, and to keep a log of his temp...
Sierra's temp back up, 102.3, which I hate
BUT she came out of the stall and was running around like normal!!!
And she did NOT want to go back in the stall, had to shove her little tushy in there
And when I opened it to bring Cocoa back in, she ran out!
Tracker's temp is down to 103.7...
Bad news, would appreciate prayers. Sierra has started the cough, and her temp went up to 103.1
Put a call into the vet, waiting for her to call me back ...
Vet said to give her a TINY bit of banamine, and keep en eye on her. Call back if she stops nursing...
Good news!
Sierra's temp is down to 101.1! And after her eye treatments she was very spunky! I took her and Cocoa on a tiny walk down my drive and back, she enjoyed it, tail flagging the whole time, cute little trot
And Tracker's temp is down to 101.7! YEAH!...
Sierra's temp is 100.5!...
her temp is 101.3
The whole time I was taking her temp, she was nibbling on my shirt! It tickled
...
Tracker's temp is 102.4. Higher than earlier, but he hasn't had meds in 12 hours, so not too much of a surprise...
Sierra's temp is 101.5, which is good. But her breathing is still labored, and now you can hear the congestion
I just paged the on call vet to see if this is ok or if there is something I should do...
Unfortunately my regular vet isn't the one on call tonight... not that I don't like the other vets, it's just that she has been here so many times, and knows what's going on...
So this vet said that, since she isn't the one seeing my girl (that I am), it's hard for her to make the call, it's up to me: have someone check her out in the morning and me continue to monitor her overnight, or have her come out tonight. I opted to have her come tonight, I'm just so worried about my girl, and babies can go downhill so fast.... UGH I just want to
...
Vet just left, cam is back.
Sierra's temp was 102.5. She said there is a little rattling in her lungs, but it's mainly upper respiratory, which is a good thing. She gave her some banamine, and gave me some of it, injectable but to give orally, since we can measure that dose for her vs paste
So she is to get that every twelveish hours IF she has a fever. She started her on antibiotics as well... 1/4 tablet! NOT easy when you're allergic... sigh... so I wore gloves to give her the first dose, and will have Craig give them from here on out. She couldn't find any info on giving ventapulmin (bronchodilator) in a foal, especially one so little, so she doen't get that. I'm to call back if she gets lethargic and doen't nurse. If that happens, she has to go to the hospital
So PLEASE
for my baby!!!...
Sierra's temp this morning is 100.7
And she doesn't sound congested anymore!...
Sierra's temp is 101.9, and she seems to be doing better
Tracker's temp is only 101.5! And he's breathing easier and ate all his breakfast
....
Ok, I probably should've put time or something, sorry if it's confusing to read ;) But it started yesterday and last "entry" was a couple hours ago. As you can imagine, it's been pretty stressful and busy here!
