I'm sorry, I answered you some time ago and don't know where the answer went. This time I'm going to save it.
I looked up where the closest foundation center is to you and it's in NYC. That is the best place to start. I don't know how far you are to NYC, but if that's a trip for you, the main library of the biggest city around you might have a few books and on-line subscriptions. Here in Knoxville (the closest big city to me) we have an on-line data base from the Foundation Center. Call the library first to see if they have it. Sometimes the library will also give a class on grant writing. The Foundation Center does for sure. They also have a lot of free information you can read.
The only real way I can tell you is to research research and research. Now with the internet it's pretty easy and a lot of the information can be found if you really look. Try the biggest university's website in NJ and see if they have grant information.
You can also go to www.guidestar.com and they list all of the foundations and nonprofits 990s. This is still free and you can obtain how much money each gave and who they gave the money to - I believe it's statement 8 on the 990. It takes a little time to know the ins and outs and I'm sorry, but I can't help you anymore that I can.
I looked at their website and they must be doing somesort of fundraising. Hope this helps.
