Hooking up a gooseneck to a crew cab truck

My wife was having trouble hooking up our gooseneck to our crew cab truck.  She couldn't see the ball over the seat.  You can buy devices that assist you on line for around $20.  Me, I did not want to spend $20.  So, I bought a plunger with a yellow handle for $6.  The type with the extended plunger.  Simply put the plunger over the ball, look in the review mirror, back up and line up the yellow handle with the center of the gooseneck.  When the handle tips over your good to go.  Make sure the gooseneck is high enough over the ball so the plunger doesn't get stuck.  I call it the Binford 2000.  Tim the toolman would be proud.

Used a plunger to keep $14 from going down the drain? I like it! But in all probability, I think Tim The Toolman would more likely have found a way to make it a Binford 2000 425HP, FUEL INJECTED gooseneck hook-up plunger. "Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!" ~FH

Heck, he'd put a remote on the truck so he could stand back and control it from the ground...vroom!!!

This is actually a good idea..we have car trailers and my neck doesn't turn as well as it used to...and I am tired of jumping in and out of the truck to see where the ball and hitch are...I'll have to come up with something this spring!

Re: Hooking up a gooseneck to a crew cab truck

We have a 3-horse gooseneck that needs to be converted to a fifth wheel because no one here in Portland Oregon would install a ball on a truck bed.  Seems the insurance providers have since frowned upon goosenecks.

Anyway, I thought another way to help with the alignment would be to electrically power the trailer with about 150 pounds of torque on each differential.  Aside from alignment duty, if the electric motors could be synchronized with the tow rig, then the extra torque could be used for smoother starts and stops.

You can get a ball installed in Boise.

One can also get a free phone book for her to sit on.  Smile Though I like the plunger idea!
