    Gallop Poll--April 08--Your Breeding Plans

Horse & Rider wants to know: Which answer best matches your intentions for this year’sbreeding season? (And feel free to elaborate!)

    * I’llbreed the same number of mares this year as last.

    * I’llcut back on mares bred, but still breed some.

    * I’vebred in the recent past, but am sitting out this breeding season.

    * I’mstill trying to decide; market conditions have me worried.

    * Idon’t do any breeding, so this year’s no different.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

I don't breed and sure don't want to start in this economy and with all of the unwanted horses out there.

    Colty - Paint gelding
    Sadie - Pinto mare
    Stormy - Mustang/Appaloosa gelding
    Brandy - Paint mare
    Doc - Paint Shetland gelding
    Cash - Paint gelding
    7 dogs
    2 cats
    lots of bulls and cows

I do plan on breeding one of my mares in the future, but I plan on keeping the foal.

I plan to bred one mare to a friesian that I bought the bred fee to a year ago - this foal will remain with me.  I was originally going to bred a few ofmy other mares, but now thinking on it have decided that I will probably not breed anything other than whatI already have buyers waiting for.

I've had a mare bred in the past, but have no future plans to breed. There are too many inexpensive nice horses out there from which to choose to play the breedig game and hope for the one you want!

I don't breed my horses. Like mentioned above, there are to many horses out there that need homes. I leave that up to the pros.

For the same reasons, too many "unwanted" horses who need loving homes.

We bred my mare last year, but she didn't carry to term. Due to some long-term health problems, she will be put down this spring along with my older retired broodmare.  If I had the right mare, I would take advantage of the rebreed option from last year's stud fee.

I will certainly miss having a good paint foal in my front pasture thing spring!
