Looking for specific article, published around 2000
Hi :) A few months ago, I found a stack of old H&Rs I had saved, ranging in the years around 1999-2001. I wanted to save them, but trying to make space, I just clipped the articles I found most helpful and got rid of the others. I ran across one article that I didn't save, but now wish that I had. I am hoping someone can help me find what month and year it was published, so I can order a back issue.
I think it was published in 2000. I don't remember the name of the article, but it was in the Winning Ways section, and I believe Bob Avila was a contributor. It talked about the color of splint and bell boots that is best suited for each color of horse.
Hopefully that is enough for someone to go by and help me out. Thanks!

Thanks :) I emailed H&R in February and again in March, and unfortunately, got no answer :( I was hoping I'd have a little better luck here.

Hi, Juli Thorson here, from H&R--
We have been without an editorial assistant since February, so alas, we haven't had the help it takes to handle some kinds of requests. Looking up individual articles, without a clear date or exact title in mind, is time consuming. We don't as yet have a full database of every article published in past issues, so looking up an article with a vague idea of date is something that has to be done page by page, one paper issue at a time.
But let's try this: What are your questions about splint boots from the article with Bob Avila? Maybe I can get the answer for you, from Bob.

Thanks for the help :) I don't blame you...even if my request was more specific, I know it would still take time to look for it page by page.
The reason I was looking for the article is because I am considering buying some splint boots for my sorrel horse. I remembered the article talked specifically about what color boots looked best on certain horse colors.
You don't have to ask Bob Abila for me, though I do appreciate it. I will just cross my fingers that someone else might be able to tell me the issue...in the worst case, I will just order a few back issues at a time until I find the right one.

Regarding colors of boots for showing:
* If your horse is a good mover, or in an event where you want to show off the leg action, use white boots to draw the judge's eye.
* If your horse is rather plain in looks, and you would like to dress him up a bit, use white boots. On a sorrel, for instance, it gives him the look of having four white stockings.
* If you want to MINIMIZE leg movement, or action, use boots that blend in with the colors of the horse's body color. Reddish brown for a sorrel, black for a bay, for instance.

The magazine is at home, but from my (sometimes poor) memory.... I am pretty sure it was Dec 2000. I'll double check tonight and verify tomorrow! :) Of, if you want, I can just send you my copy!
