    The Fork CCI*** -- wow!

So this was my first foray into the world of volunteering at an event, so I decided to go all out and start at the top!  I was very happy with my jump because it was straightforward and horse-friendly, so all day I was free of wrecks or refusals.  There were four divisions and I was a jump judge all day.  If you are not familiar with The Fork, it's a nice little place -- let me just say, this is the BARN!! --  yeah, enough said.

And, OMG, talk about stressful -- not only was I freaking out because I was judging folks like Karen O'Connor -- ahh look, here I am judging her and one of her "other" horses:

Well, it got MORE stressful!!!  Karen and Teddy (yes, Mr. Theodore O'Connor) are the last competitors in the ***World Cup division – in which my jump was jump 14.  So, here they come towards my fence.  As they begin their approach, I hear my radio pipe up from fence 12, where apparently, Karen and Teddy jumped the jump, then turned around and jumped it backwards (jumping a jump the wrong way is instant elimination) – apparently running seven horses on three different courses gave Karen a massive brain fart?  TD and Ground Jury (decision makers) ask for confirmation as Karen gets to my jump and I’m praying “oh dear God, don’t make me step out in front of Teddy O’freakin’Connor and Karen and make them stop so I can tell them they are eliminated.”  TD and Ground Jury decide, yes, she is eliminated and they must be pulled from the course immediately.  Blessed be all horse show gods, at this point, she is now to jump 16 or 17 and I am relieved of that distasteful duty!  Gah, I was about to have a heart attack right there in my tacky little “Official” bib!!!!

Here they are walking off course -- he is a super cute pony for sure, but when he moves, he looks like a 16.2 TB to me!

    A few more highlights:

This was a massive corner called "The Shamrock"

Phillip Dutton and one of his "kids" take on the Turtle Pond

    Flying through the Canada Geese

They had a pair of really cute picnic tables with ants on them -- the pic's not that great, it was overcast all day and the light was really tough to shoot in.

I just love how careful this horse is -- this was my jump again, it was huge, about shoulder height on me, and I'm 5'9".

I must thank BF Jim for the piccies, I was busy judging all day, so didn't have time to shoot, so had to turn over the camera.  But he did a great job, considering crappy light!!

Oh! how exciting! cute little barn!!!

That looks like so much fun being a jump judge there. I know a few of the alberta folk were down competiting at that competition. They are great pictures! I only ever jump judged at little competitions in england. Would love to do it again, but would probably be like you...scared to stop karen o connor!!

So does it make you excited to start competiting in eventing?? It sure does me....roll on June for the first competition!!! (not quiet that size jumps mind!)

Solaris, so sorry that you had to jump judge at this rinky dink little competition.  Hopefully next time with some experience under you belt you can move up to a more presentable barn.  LOL!!!!  I want to go tour that barn, or maybe move in there.  thanx to your BF for the pics.  Very fun.  It must be a big time competition because you are dropping names even I recognize and I am not a big eventing fan.  Hope your quarantine is lifted soon.

Oh that is too bad about the strangles. any idea when you can get loose? You are lucky yours have started already we don't start til June, although I have a dressage schooling show this weekend. Have you been going to watch and get the hang of the competitions? thats always good experience. What class are you going to do?

    Those ants are cool!!

Well, it was April 24, but now not sure, it might get pushed back to May 1?  Some crappy crappy you-know-what lady is suing our BO (totally unfounded, BO is an awesome guy) so they are being very very careful about lifting quarantine.  I'll just be doing BN, and won't be doing recognized events (mostly because I can't afford them!) -- Solo could do novice, but we need to get our dressage underway, but OH can't take dressage lessons until we can trailer out!  Grrr, it stinks!

Re: The Fork CCI*** -- wow!

I think BN is what we started at (2ft3 is it?) we did 2ft 6 last year and will do again this year, but will go in the open class this year, as we were reserve champion for the regular class. We only do the Alberta events which are expensive enough, I figured out it will cost us $1700 in entry fees, without thinking about gas, oh my that will be crazy!!! but we only do eight all year, so will just suck it up!!

Well sounds like the lady suing the BO should be shot!!! some people!! well I hope that you can get out of the yard sooner rather than later, and get some competition pictures up soon!! I love seeing Solo!!
