    Double Jeopardy

My wife just read me a Fred Astaire quote, "In dealing with a girl or a horse, one lets nature take it's course."

Could that mean double jeopardy for the husband of a horse crazy woman?Lightning

Take it from a horse-craay wife; just go with the flow because you'll never get her to change! In fact, my hubby found the best solution was to get his own horse. He got himself a feisty mare and now has 2 females with minds of their own to deal with! LOL He thinks there should be special wedding vows for marrying a horse crazy woman! Good luck!

I love her dearly and am trying to catch up with all the horsey stuff.  Her mom told me that at a few weeks old, she took her on a ride.  Upon dismounting, my Sweetie grabbed the saddle and cried.  She didn't want to leave the horse.  Made my mother-in-law cry too.

The horse crazy gene could be genetic.  Aren't we all born bow-legged?

Yes! Kudos to all the supportive spouses!! My mother once told me that my first word was "horsey" and that I had no interest in the books she read to me in less they were about horses or at least farm animals. She may have been pulling my leg! Wink She hoped I would outgrow it, but here I am at 49. Don't think I'll out grow it!! She never did let me keep a pony in my bedroom like I wanted to!!

You mean like http://www.guidehorse.org/photo_page.htm ?  And it says somewhere on this site that the horses are toilet trained.

Come to think about it, a toilet trained mini is a sign of high IQ and very high CQ.  How much more dignified can a horse get?  I'd sure like to know how the mini's were trained to potty and pee in a 'horsey litter'.  If only I had the faith and works to convert our horses into potty and pee only at a designated place, imagine how much labor and money that would save!!!

This reminded me of the poem my husband and I had printed in our wedding invites. It is called Choices and it is all about if you chose to be with a horse loving parntner. The last paragraph reads:

If you want to stay coupled, please take my advice,
You'd better think hard and you'd better think twice
Before offering the choice and saying with force,
"Now make up your mind . . . who stays . . . me or the horse?"

I always remind my husband that he did not go into it blindly. Smile

Neither did I.  In fact, We met because she took a job in Portland, 90 miles away from her horse.  I knew she was missing her horse, so I offered to drive her down to Corvallis.  I fell for her and because I also fell for her horse, she fell for me.  One of the first things we did after combining our incomes was bring her horse up.  I know one of the ways to my Sweetie's heart is through our horses.  It's a given.

We acquired my horse after we were married.  She has always dreamed of having a horse business.  So I concocted up a business plan that we've been trying to implement for the past 18 months.  Here we are, former 1040EZ paycheck folks,  having just filed our first income tax with a Schedule C showing a huge loss.

So that's why I'm in this forum.  In fact, I joined this forum because we started to file for 2007 taxes back in February.  I realized then that we had better succeed with the business within 7 years.  Otherwise, it's what it is, a very expensive and bank busting hobby.  Specially with anywhere from 5 to 10 horses.

Having two horses was not a big deal.  Now that this City Boy is trying to be a cow poke, he intends to succeed.  My Sweetie, on the other hand, can't seem to understand why folks just don't come rushing in to ride!  We've built it, so they should come, right?

If John Q Public had come rushing in, we'd have been in the black in no time.  She was about to quit!  Now I'm the one telling her that we are holding on to our dream.  Together, we hope to succeed.

If this dang winter would just end!  Where is global warming when you need it?

That is a very cool story - I wish you both every success with your business!!

I have always wanted to have a horse business but my husband's line is "Never invest in something that eats while you sleep" Tongue Tied

That's really neat. I wonder if I could get Scout into the shower..... If I ever go blind, I'll have a guide mini instead of a guide dog! LOL.

The closest our horses have come to going in the potty is while the paddock is being cleaned and one of them comes over and relieves themself next to the wheel barrow. It's their way of "helping"!

Don't give up! It takes time and patience to build a business!
