Help! Dark/Hunter green for western classes? Where?

I have a lovely deep sorrel AQHA mare.  Dark green looks fantastic on her; I even looked on the Hobby Horse site and other forums-- everywhere agreed that dark green is a great color for sorrel horses.  I bought a blanket in a solid hunter green... only to find that NO WHERE sells shirts, blouses, slinkies, or even vests in a dark green.  I have totally struck out.  I called Hobby Horse and the customer service lady said, "Dark green is not popular right now so we don't make or sell anything in that color."

I have tried 1849, Hobby Horse, ebay, and numerous searches on the internet.  Since I am new to showing (and planning only to entering schooling shows at this time), I don't want to put a fortune into a custom top-- does anyone know any retailers who carry a western top (of any sort suitable for showing) in dark green or with dark green accents?  I know Suitabililty sells patterns, but again, I was looking for something a bit simpler since this is all totally new for me.

And, to others, my advice it to find a top before buying the saddle blanket!!  Thanks for any assistance!

You can try Rods and Smith Brothers, but you're best bet would be to return the saddle blanket and buy one that matches your chaps and hat. That way you can have different shirts and not have to worry about having a blanket that matches each one. My entire outfit is sand, except for my shirt which is green (sorry, not hunter green) and my blanket is sand. The most expensive part of your outfit will be the hat and chaps, so you won't want to replace them any more then you have to. Have a show blanket that matches them and another one for schooling and you won't have to replace the blanket any more then you have to replace the chaps and hat. Good luck in your search

    Hi,

If you can't find a shirt you like with the green - basic black is always good - you could accent the shirt with a green neck (show) scarf - are you wearing (black) chaps?

This has dark green accents - might a bit too fancy for you but the price is right

Thanks for the input.  I don't yet have chaps & a hat yet.  I appreciate you taking the time-- maybe that Stateline tack one will work for the schooling shows.  Thansk again!

If you or someone you know can sew well I would recomend making one. It is not as hard as it looks. You can get patterns from many places like www.dustytrailsranchnd.com/Equine_Patterns.html Then you can choose any collor/pattern you would like.Smile

The ladies at Hobby Horse are right--forest green isn't a hot trend in show clothes right now, so you're probably not going to have much luck finding current clothing that color. I would suggest buying your chaps and hat in a good neutral (think sand or taupe, brown, black) and then looking for a shirt either in hunter green or with hunter green accents.  If you're totally stuck on that color, you'll probably have to have something custom made--and that's not cheap!

You may want to look at the show proofs at www.kcmontgomery.com to get an idea of what colors look good in the show ring on horses that are the same color as yours.  Some other easier-to-find color might tickle your fancy :)

I have a new pair of hunter green ultra suede chaps I've worn maybe 3 times . Also have a vest with gold and green with metallic. The saddle blanket I have is a tan with green and a bit of gold metallic threading . All the clothes are sm and med. All hobby horse except the saddle blanket. I may poss. be interested in selling as a lot.

    I would try showtimeshoeclothing.com

I have gotten an item or two from there, The clothing is quite expensive though. Hope it helps you. Just make sure to look at the size they listed in the description. They usually only have one peice in the size they list!
