So sorry to hear about Vanny. I will keep him and you in my prayers tonight.

With tearful eyes, we watched you suffer and saw you fade away. Although we could not bear to lose you, We could not bid you to stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working feet were laid to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us that He only takes the best.

As soon as I saw this thread I was like "Not Vanny!". ((hugs)) to you and Vanny. Vanny is one of my favorite old guys on this forum. He just looks like such a great old guy. Here's hoping that he pulls through. I will definitely keep you two in my thoughts and prayers tonight.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that.. I hope he pulls through - he seems like a fighter! Was the vet able to diagnose what exactly was wrong with that leg?

I may have to put Vanny down. Updated with pics

I really want to thank everyone for the kind words and support. It means everything to me right now. Vanny's condition is the same as of this morning. Still not putting any weight on his leg. But now I've noticed that instead of his right hind also being off, it has switched to his left hind. He is not eating all his mash feed anymore either. He seems eager to eat it at first, but then stops eating half way through. He must of laid down again last night as his fly mask and his sides had some dirt on him. So even though he cannot use the right leg, he's still able to get himself down and up again. Better than the vets expected. I almost wish that he couldn't get himself up so I could make this final decision better. But I have decided to let him go. The thought of never seeing him again is killing me and I have tears as I write this. Broken Heart But just because he is able to hobble around the pasture and go back and forth across the ditch, does not mean that he can survive like that. His muscles quiver from the stress of trying to support himself. I am angry that something like this is what is gonna end his life because he is still so strong in mind and body. But as you can see in these pictures, unless I come home tonight and his leg is usable, I have no other choice.
