Western or English and why?

Do you ride Western or English, and why? Please don't criticize others' opinions. I just want to see which is more popular. Not that this would prove it, but hey, it's worth a try.

Me.......... I ride Western, because I've been riding that way my whole life, and why change now? I like the whole "cowboy" theme, and like living on the age rather then neat and tidy! I do like the neatness of the English riding, however, I enjoy Western. What about you??????????????

I haven't been on in forever

Wow I haven't been on in a while. So much has been happening I started riding about a month ago but only ride once a month right now. I started school in August and wont get done with my first semester till December 10th of this year I am very excited about finishing my first semester of college.

I have a new boyfriend in my life and hes amazing and well its an amazing feeling how I have had so many boyfriends and they have never made me feel the way he makes me feel. :) Its a great feeling, anyways next Summer I am hoping to start leasing a horse. I cant wait to start riding again to start getting critiqued etc :)

Anyways whats up?

I just got out of my last class of the day a little while ago, and as I was walking along I heard an idiot talking into her cell phone. Why oh why do girls feel the need to talk one of two ways?!

1) (and this is almost word for word the conversation I heard...) Like, so, like, me and 'Bob' are just like, totally meandering, like, over to where you guys, like are...(the entire time her and Bob are walking slow enough I honestly am not sure how they didn't just fall over...)

or...2) When the girls just like totally like talk like so like freaking fast that you like don't have like any like clue like what they were like, trying to like say, like OMG! Like, but it like soooo doesn't matter, bc like they like never like say anything other than like LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

first night in new home

i just spent my first night in my new home (well I hope it will be see below on why) I have been living on the road for about the last 4 years getting a round by bike ( i cant drive because of my dyspraxia) helping out at horse shows so it will be nice to have some where to call home the house is on about 3.5 acres of land

my mum owns the house that is the good part the bad part is that my mums boyfriend (who lives with her now is a control freak (I am not the only one who say that all my friends dont like him at all ) that also a hoarder so there is junk over most of the house my mum and him has spend the last 4 weeks moving suff from the house they was renting to here and there is still suff ever where (not good for me with my dyspraxia) so i dont know how long i will be here for (if it dose not work out i will just have to give away 75% of my things and go back on the road

so i am hoping for the best (that i will stay here for a few years at lest)

just a vent about horse show people

as some of you might know i help out a horse shows here in nz about 50+ shows in the last 7 years.

at the last few show i keep hearing the same thing from some of the show people-that good safe jump gear is to much work ie using safey cups on the back and midde of jumps (show jump) ( safey cups are in 2 paces and come apart when the horse hits the back pole hard (with out then the horse can brank the pole or get cought up in the jump here in nz the jump poles are 12-20 kg each 4m long and about 10-12 cm acourse

when i say anything the people just dont want to know or say that the jumps would fall down to easy (if you dont hit the jumps hard then they wont fall down then will they?)

sorry about the spelling as it 5 am also my dyspraxia is not helping my typeing

I just bought one, but havn't taken it out of the box yet. does anyone have one? if so what brand and what do you think about it?

Mines a Asus, i havn't heard of the brand before but all the online reviews were really positive and the people at Best Buy said it was better then HP and Dell.

Can any one help? I've had this thing for years & used to get on a lot but it slowely slacked off & i've recently rediscovered it when my gelding started acting up & I turned to here for help! (:

Dam, beaver!

Apparently, a beaver has sent up camp in the back 7(acres) of our property which is pretty much untouched. Our creek runs back there, and meets up with a spur, in which the beaver has constructed a dam in that fork. Now, he has flooded the neighbor's wetlands adjacent to us, much to his delight, and it's upsetting the neighbors.

My question is, has anyone had to "remove" a beaver and what is the proper way to go about this? I called DNR but, that will take a while and the dam removal is our expense. We had one kind volunteer who said he would, "Take a back hoe to it" but, I really rather relocate this beaver first. Help!

College and the criticizm

I started college about 2 weeks ago. My major is Horse Science and I want to become a trainer once I am out of school. Im in a riding class twice a week. They have me scheduled with their monser horse who is easily 17 hands tall. He is huge. Well I was talking to my riding instructor criticized me about my height and my weight and saying how this is the only horse that I can ride. I am 6'1 and 214lbs. Ive been dieting and its improving but im so stressed about her saying the only horse that can carry me is this 17 hand tall horse. Both of my horses are 15.2-15.3 hands tall and ive ridden them for 6 years and they have seemed to carry me quite fine. But now that my instructor is criticizing im starting to wonder if i should continue working at this major. I love horses they have always been my number one priority i would die with out them in my life. But how can i become a trainer when the only horses that i can ride are 17 hands tall? What really makes me upset is the fact that she has another rider who is much bigger then me on a 15 hand tall quarter horse. is it mainly my height or mainly my weight. Ive always been told you should not exceed more then 20% of your horses weight. These horses are nice and well fed. Im just so frustrated right now!!!

Standard Poodle update

If you didn't read prior post,he needed rehomed do to a move. I was supposed to meet him a while ago,I thought maybe the guy was able to keep him. Out of the blue this morning I got a call that he was here. So far he is doing great. I have a week to try him out,then the owner is going back to Oklahoma.He is just a big snugglebug!!!! I will try to get my daughter to get pics of him{Max} and Lucy our CockerSpaniel we got from the shelter. I see a nice set of clippers in my future lol. My dog groomer is gonna love me,we also have a small poodle {Niko}.

On another board, I posted a question that received a couple of responses that I thought were rude and patronizing. Rather than indulge in a flame war, I copied them into Word, turned on my my personal snark button, and answered them the way I really felt. I'm not going to post it or PM them or anything and will delete it in a day or two after I've savored it enough. It's childish, I know, but boy did it make me feel better. Just wondered if anybody else had ever done anything like that. Sometimes people seem to intentionally read things the wrong way, or just assume if they don't understand you, you must be a moron.

So I got a job out here in Utah, and to celebrate, I got a puppy!! His name is Teddy and he is a 7 month old yellow lab mix. Mixed with what, we don't know. He's quite small, about 20lbs. and the vet said he wouldn't get much bigger. Of course I took some pictures because I know that a post about a new animal just wouldn't be acceptable here.

It isn't the wall that is crooked, its my camera abilities!

Moved to North Carolina

My family and I moved to North Carolina a little less then 2 weeks ago.

My mom got a new job here which resulted in the move.

It's taking some time to adjust to the new area.

At the moment we're renting a townhouse until we find something bigger.

Well here are is what the area looks like.

I swear it rains more here in NC then it did in Pittsburgh.

We adopted a beautiful 8 ish year old Cocker Spaniel with probable eye sight issues.She goes to the vet on monday for shots and a checkup.She's settling in real nice. The shelter was very happy we were adopting her with her age and eye issues,she is such a sweetheart. By the way they named her Lucy and they found her wandering the streets. Her weight is good and she was groomed awhile ago,I don't get it. Thanks for letting me share.

Last week we had to say goodbye to our wonderful doberman and I said no more big dogs. We lost our dane and doberman both to different types of cancer. My moms cousin came over today and said her ex has 2 dogs,standard poodle and a standard poodle/ giant snauzer mix he has to find homes for asap. He is from another state and is coming up in a couple days,not much time. I have a reg size poodle now and love him dearly!! I was wondering if their temperament is similar? The poodle Max is 3-4 yrs,paprs,not fixed. He is the dad to the mix. I'm gonna try and get some more answers from the cousin. Ideally I would have both dogs over to have a play date at my house to see if they will work out with my family. I'm not sure if I'm ready,and I don't want to jump in to try to fill the empty hole Lexi left. I'll keep you posted,any with standard poodle experiences??? Thanks!!!

I have taken over responsibility for the care of a colony of 10 feral kitties in a condo complex in South Charlotte and am working in conjunction with Friends of Feral Felines Organization in Charlotte. I own a condo in that same complex. There was a complaint lodged against the kitties for nothing more than the fact that they exist, and the management company has given me until October 1 to find a new location for the kitties or they will be destroyed. All cats in this colony are fixed and have their rabies vaccine. They do not cause any problems, and have helped to keep the mouse, rat, snake population down in my area of the complex. There are a couple that have bonded and should be kept together, but in total 9 cats will need to be relocated, as I have found a home for one of them. I will take care of trapping, relocating, and providing food for the kitties. There is a process for relocating a feral that includes keeping it in a relocation cage for several weeks to make sure that it is acclimated to the new location. I will provide instructions, the cage, and all the other stuff needed for this process at NO CHARGE to the person taking the kitties. I will need a guarantee that the kitties will have their shots updated when necessary, and I will be more than happy to help trap and get the kittie to a vet for that, and if there is an issue with cost for the shot, I will help with that. The location needs to be out in the country, away from heavy traffic areas, with an access to shelter. They will need to be fed and watered daily, and if the occasion occurs, taken to the vet. These kitties will help keep all vermin around your barn, home, feed areas to a bare minimum, and are all very healthy. I will be happy to answer any questions, please contact me at rebeccaq@gmail.com. Please consider helping with this, these poor kitties have done nothing wrong.

We just delivered hay to some people I feed for occasionally and they asked me to work part time in their barn. They do therapy with kids,using the horses. I will be getting stuff ready for the clients,giving the horses a snack before their supper feeding,and i'm sure lots of other things. I'v known them for a long time and they've been great to work for. They hope to hire me full time when my son starts school,they will have more clients then to. In 2-3 weeks they'll have their new schedule and we are gonna go over details. Had to share my good news!!!

Bucks is at Oregon State University vet center with Major. He colicked pretty badly in the heat at the 4 H fair. He's had some small hard BM's and is still on IV rehydration. Bucks is in a campground with limited services and limited Internet access. ~FH
