3 year old OTTB gelding

My other critique thread is getting quite long so I decided to start posting individual threads on prospects.

Here is a 3 year old OTTB, just over 16 hands. He apparently raced three times and finished dead last twice, and second to last the other time. The owners feel he just isn't racing and are looking for a good home that will take him in another direction.

I only have one photo (sorry, it's not a very good confirmation pic, but hopefully you guys can at least tell something from it).

Can you believe this little guy! The first picture was about 2 1/2 weeks from wild visiting with a news reporter and second picture is about 5 weeks from wild.

What do y'all think about him? He is used for reining and cowboy mounted shooting.

Tex Tan Saddle Critique

This saddle is a 1964 Tex Tan saddle the flocking has been replaced this summer and saddle has been redone.

the numbers 1250 564-65783 is on the back skirting. all i know is 564 is may 1964 the date it was made.

Any critiques on this one? I went to look at it (sam dropped it off at our barn today so i can see it) some stitching needs replaced on the fenders, nothing major but definatly looks like an older saddle.

I have a saddle fitter coming out Tuesday at 1:30 to check out my saddle and make sure the tree isnt twisted and see if we dont have a saddle that might fit him. And she also makes what she calls an "UGLY pad" of which is handmade and is built up to where the saddle needs it to fit your horse sells for 120-150 dollars (not going to buy lol)

But i would love critiques on this one.

Also a Circle Y i know of but need to get pictures sent to me first.

I'm going to take this guy out for a test ride tomorrow, and want to get some input on his looks. The owner has been up front with me about the injury/scar, and will come with a thorough and recent vetting report. He is 8 years old, extensively trail ridden, beginner safe, and supposedly could go back to the show ring with a little brushing up. Asking $3000, which is a bit more than I want to spend, but I'd pay it for the right one. He does have Impressive in his pedigree, but is N/N. That still worries me...maybe it shouldn't!? I have been looking for a long time and have not found what I'm looking for yet. I'm really tired of looking but I don't want to make a hasty decision. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Opinions on this saddle please. I know nothing about Western Saddlery Co. The saddle looks like the best one i;ve looked at yet.

I'm looking at it for Riley, my new boy, my current western saddle fits CB but not him. I had a lady at the barn try her Full QH tree saddle on him and she says thats the gullet he needs.

I've never bought a saddle from online, but the feedback is very positive on this seller and theres even comments that the saddles are able to be sent back if it doesnt fit your horse (i read many of the feedbacks)

I'm looking for an all around saddle that i can use to put many miles on him, also used for a tad bit of Ranch Horse Association shows and fair. I dont do any shows bigger then local.

Please are their faults on this saddle that i;m not seeing?? 90% chance that if i got this saddle i would take off the saddle strings.

I am definitely going to do my best to talk my friend out of purchasing the horse with the suspensory injury. Just doesn't seem like a good idea, especially given the fact that he's young and huge (17.2)...it doesn't bode well for his future soundness.

With that in mind, I am back to square one. What do you all think of this guy?

She wants a young gelding, green-broke, at least 16.3 at maturity, and inexpensive (like, she really would prefer to keep it at $5,000 or under...actually, more like 4k if she can help it). Doesn't have to be registered, and she's open to TBs, warmbloods, warmblood crosses, TB crosses, Percheron crosses, etc. Mainly, she just wants to do low-to-mid level dressage, maybe hop over the occasional jump or two.

Will my horse make it as a dressage horse?

I have a 3 year old TB, never raced. I got him last year in hopes that I could make him into a dressage horse. I have had a hunter/jumper trainer look at him and she said he would not make a dressage horse, but would make a great hunter/jumper. However she doesn't do dressage so I want a dressage persons opinion. When I lunge him, he's got a great stride (will extrend trot) and will half pass out of the lunge circle when pushed out. He's very flexible. To me when I think hunters, I think of more thin long necked horses that carry their necks/heads low and take low jumps nice and easy. Jumpers I think of fireballs ready to explode. There's been a few jumpers that dressage riders (pros) have taken and made into dressage horses and in this area as it's not that competitive, I've seen people show up at dressage shows with their hunter horses place in the dressage ring without being on the bit or have a correct head carriage. I don't want to be one of those, I want to have a true dressage horse. I was just surprised that she said he wouldn't go far...what do you all think? (PS: Not flaming hunter jumpers, been there done that, showed them and not interested in that anymore). Also, would like to take him to a few combined events as well if he likes jumping.

I've never done this so I hope the pictures show up.

He would be just a riding pony and maybe to do playdays on. There is something odd with his neck I think and his belly is huge. But the colors of his spots are really unique.

So, I had another post, but I really need some feedback on her confirmation. I got her this past Saturday, and there are a lot of things I really like, and some not so much. I would love to hear all of everyone's thoughts on her confirmation. I am still in a sort of trial period so it could be that something with her confirmation will help me make a more final decision. I will probably keep her, but she may end up more of a trail horse than my dressage horse. Thanks in advance!

He is only 18 months old so I know you cant tell a whole lot right now but do you see any major faults? I have a lady who might show him in halter for me. I think he would catch your eye because of the color but is his conformation good enough?

Ok, I finally got some good pics of my 5 year old filly Hurrikhana. Her "around the barn name" is Ana. She is the result of three generations of breeding, beginning with her grandsire, Hurrikhan, who was our original Trekehner stallion, I have pics of him and Ana's mother, Capikhan, who died when she was born. My stepmom/trainer is putting some finishing dressage and jumping work on her before she is transferred over to me legally, probably next summer. I am hoping for an event horse! She was originally offered to me as a 3 year old, but I didn't feel confident enough to start her since she can be a bit of a brat. Luckily she is growing out of it! She was put under saddle by a cowboy instead, and he did a great job. Feel free to critique her conformation and my roaching job on her mane, lol, it looks best after a couple weeks, but I had my fiancee, Chris (in the first two pics) with me so we took advantage and got some shots. My nutty German Shepherd is in some of them too.

I don't need another horse. I have three. Ta'ceweyi has loads of potential but it will be years before we are there. The other two are old. I want to go dressage/eventing and I have found a wonderful trainer. The problem is a lack of horse. That being said, I was looking at the equisearch classifieds and found a huge prospect. I don't want to get anything not perfect as far as soundness and conformation.

This ad was emailed to me by a local rescue... I looked at their site and apparently he is their one and only horse. The price is crazy high... but apparently is "truly negotiable" to the right home. The rescue is a 501c3 organization... so they technically can't charge so much that they would make a profit....

The ad does not mention it but apparently he was retired from racing at the age of 3, given two years turnout time, and then put into training with a dressage trainer. He is currently being partially leased by a 13 year old girl, and is working on his 2nd level movements with the dressage trainer. He's also just started jumping.

This one might be out of reach (and I'm more drawn to horses with more urgent need), but I would still be interested in critiques of him, together with estimates of what he is worth in today's market.

I've posted another thread regarding the fact that I'm considering getting a new horse, and would appreciate everyone's opinions on those I am considering checking out.

A big pro is that the owner is offering a free lease, which means I could try her out before committing to anything. I do have a bit of "mare bias," though... I've always had geldings. ;) She doesn't have as much training as I'd like, but she's a good age and has at least been ridden (60 days of training spread out over some time). She seems to be put together well.

So I moved across country, and had to leave my old boy at home. After thinking about it for quite a while, I realized that the trip alone would probably kill him (he's at least 20 and has a fear of stalls..... and trailers). So now, as soon as I get a job, I would like to adopt a OTT thoroughbred. This is one I found in Cali, what do you guys think of him?

Say hi to my cute little stud muffin! He is an appaloosa/thoroughbred cross. The world exists solely for his amusement as far as he is concerned. So far he is turning out perfect. He is almost freakishly calm, super smart, and has an awesome personality. He was born Feb. 26, 2009. His dad, the app, is stocky and about 15 1/2 hands and his mom is right at 16h. He will probably be mostly for trails, but I would like to possibly do some jumping and definitely some dressage.

Please let me know how he looks, and how his build is looking so far. Most of the pics are taken recently, so just shy of 6 months old. He is slowly getting spottier and on his neck he is starting to get speckly looking.

I have heard of two ways of predicting height, and at 6 months a weanling height predictor would seem fairly accurate. One you measure from the middle of the knee to the top of the hoof, inches equals future hands. The other predictor you go from the elbow to the ground, and then double that measurement to get future height. Both of those tests put him at 16 hands, how accurate is that? Thank you!

None of the pics show how much his color has changed, or how he is getting speckly. The last one shows the marks on his face. The lady who had him when he was born put a halter on him and left it. The resulting mark is going away slowly but, well, that just makes me mad. One of the pictures of his rump there is a mark where the skin was scraped off shortly before I got him. It's not actually scarred, that is what is neck is doing. It started by his head, and is slowly going down his neck to make him more and more, well, speckly.
