    Hoof boots instead of Shoes?

Has anyone tried the easy boots, or anykind of boot like that? My gelding is really touchy on gravel and I dont want to put shoes on if I don't have to and I've read up on the boots and just wondering if anyone has tried them and your opinions on them or if you can recommend some?

    Thanks!

We've been using Marquis Super Boots for the last year. They work fine.
If your horse has abcesses, or has been cut too short they will offer a little extra cushion/protection, but it's not as if you can magically have a "sound" horse just by putting boots on them. The feet still have to heel. In absense of any actual issue though, they are great for horses with sensitive feet, ie.. Thoroughbreds;).

They are fairly expensive though, so you want to make sure that you are buying the right size. Marquis has a 14 day trial to test out the boots, and make sure that you have the correct size. The monies incurred during the trial period are applied to the purchase price of the actual boots.

I don't believe that these boots are available in the US. We have been ordering ours from Canada. No problems getting them shipped to the US though. Nice company to do business with on the phone. Very knowledgable employees in our experiences dealing with them.

Old Mac boots are good IMO, kinda clunky well they all are but my mom has some and so does my trainer for her gelding who had a infection and had his enitre frog removed (ouch) anyway they seem to work fine.

I have a mare that has an abscess, but my gelding has fine feet except for he's touchy on gravel. I'll spend the money for good boots no problem, but I dont want to wreck his feet with shoes if at all possible. Thanks for your suggestions though.

i have old mac boots for the fronts. but since Shooter was so sensitive barefoot, i put shoes back on him, i keep the old mac's in case he loses a shoe. they were ok, but i think either you can go barefoot or not, and if you can, then why bother with a boot? they are a bit clunky and somewhat of a pain to do it right, clean the boot and the ankle, so they don't rub/make blisters. i was always worried that they would turn and he would get hurt.

These people are trained to fit them. Easy Boot Epics fit well and wear good once fitted. You should be able to get him comfortable on gravel with a few other changes. PM if you want more info.

I was just going to post about boots.:) You beat me to it. Thanks for all the info!
What about boots over shoes? My TB has typical TB feet. He has shoes on the front which is fine except on trails. The rocks still hurt his feet. Can I put boots over the shoes?

I don't believe any of the boots are made to be used for riding over shoes.

There are several different ones available now with more coming out. Epics, Bares, Easy Boots, Boas, Old Macs, Swiss, Cavallo.... They look promising..

I have used Easy boots for several years. I've not worn them out yet.. They can be a pita to get off and on however. I curse often. Wink I'd like to replace them with a different type like the old macs, cavallos, or bares maybe.. can't decide. lol

Take shoes off, then buy boots.

Pss, my tb had the "tb feet" too, until we took shoes off, did a natural trim and now we can gallop down gravel roads with no problem!
