The BO just called me and said that they tested her milk and Rizzie might foal TONIGHT!  My friend Krisann is out foalwatching and is going to give me a call at the first sign of labor.  I'm so excited!  I will be sure to take pics ASAP!

False alarm.  I guess her milk was white but it tested orange (this is what happens when you combine lack of knowledge with phone tag)? I dunno what all that really means except that it means she wasn't giong to foal last night and will probably foal within the next 2 days or so.  And yes, I will be going out there as soon as I hear word from either the BO or my friend.

Well, Rizzie finally foaled last night!  She had a pretty little filly... dark just like mom with one hind sock.  I spent the last three days at the barn with my friend Krisann.  I sure was glad to finally get to sleep in my own bed last night.  Anyway, here are the pics:

We're a little worried because Rizzie was having a hard time bonding with the baby, but she is also a maiden mare and was more concerned with her after birth cramps.  I'm going to try and go out there today and check up on her. 

Name suggestions anyone?  We need something really unique for her. 

Mom's name:  A Rizen Talent

Dad's name: Indian Artbeat

She's very dainty and independent.  And she has the softest, silkiest little mane you could imagine.  We waited a long time for this one..

Thanks guys! I talked to my trainer and she said that Rizzie was being a very good mom now that her post-labor pains have subsided.  I'm still going to try and go out there tonight to check up on her though. 

I really like the name suggestions so far, but what would her barn name be then?  I like when the barn name comes from the registered name and isn't something totally random.  It seems like the baby would still have to be called "Rizzie" or something... but I'm not very creative so I could be missing something really good.  My trainer has the final say, so when I gather up a good list I'll send them to her.

 Congrats on the beautiful baby!!! I was thinking the same name as Js. A Rizen Artbeat. That's so funny. I can't think of any others. I am glad she is bonding well with baby.  Let us know what you pick out for a name.

Well I went out to the barn to check on Rizzie and her baby today.  She's being a really good mom now!  The baby is having a hard time staying warm though so we put a blanket on her.  My trainer also thinks she might have a slight heart murmur that will probably go away.... I hope so!  And of course, I got more pictures now that she's up and running:

And I REALLY like the barn name Ari for the baby... it fits her dainty personality.  I kind of like "A Rizen Heartbeat" since she had some heart issues.  Keep the suggestions coming!  She was also born in the middle of a bad storm that was almost a tornado if that gives anyone any good ideas.  Earlier, I thought of Awaited something or other as a play on Rizzies name since I slept at the barn 3 days waiting for this girl!

Hmmm...to keep with the Ari name..I assume your trainer wants part of the studs name somewhere too...
