    Vehicle Accident

So on Wed. my sister was driving the van and I was passenger in the city.  We came up to a light that was green and my sister looked away for a sec. She's not sure exactly why, thinks she was checking mirrors.  Anyway, when she looked back up a big F-150 had stopped in front of us.  Needless to say we rear-ended the thing pretty good.  The front end of the van is pretty smushed.  The truck didn't have much damage.  My sister and I (we are twins, not identical) just got our drivers in Jan. so we were both very shook up.  The guy who was driving the truck was really nice though and we got through the whole thing alright.  We were both OK physically.  My mom was nearby but couldn't come b/c we had the vehicle.  My dad was also close so he came to pick us up.  Right now we are waiting to hear from Autopac but we are pretty sure it will be a write-off.  Not sure what will happen with my sister's license.

The airbags came out and must have scraped past my arm pretty good.  I have no memory before or during the crash, just afterwards.  Anyway, here are some pics of my arm.  The crash was on Wed. these were taken yesterday (Mon.) so 5 days later.

This is my whole arm, its my left arm from just above my wrist to over half-way between my elbow and shoulder.  Part of it may be some chemical burn, apparently there are chemicals on the airbags that could easily have gotten in there. I'm not sure, all I know is that it hurt like crazy all afternoon and evening.

My lower arm - definatly the worst.  Most of the scabbing is gone already

Elbow area - hard to see, there is more skin scraped off at the top

Thank goodness you both are ok!  Scary, huh?  The burns look ouchy, but better than broken bones, eh?

Happy to hear you and your sister are okay.  My daughter was recently struck by a driver running a stop sign and the airbag exploded in her face and chest, she was disoriented for several minutes due to the gas in the bag.  (not to mention the broken collarbone)  But, of course, the airbag surely saved her from further injury.  (probably you and your sister too)

    Heal fast!

Ya, the bag definatly saved our faces some dashboard time! My sister thinks she must have hit the bag just right because she didn't have any bruising or soreness in her face or chest.

Yeeowch, those scrapes and chemical burns on your arm look nasty.  But it could have been so much worse! Glad you and your sister are OK and mending.  Here's hoping your sister's license is OK, too Smile

    Re: Vehicle Accident

Sorry you guys had that mess. and glad you're not hurt(minus your arm).

tell your sister to not  feel to shaken up abotu crashing so soon after getting  liscense. I crashed my parents minivan less than 3 months after getting mine. Reared ended a guy although not as bad as getting the airbags out. Thankfully the other car wasn't hurt although our van ended up with a major bill. It's great you had a reasonable person to deal with. I was lucky in that respect too. Actually what happened to you guys sounds very similiar to what happened to me overall. As far as her license, the insurance will probably go up, although sometimes it doesn't (paperwork get lost or something like that). she shouldn't have to worry about points for this so unless your parents don't  let her drive it shouldn't be too bad.

It does scare you into paying more attention though. I was stopped at a red light and reached down to grab my directions and my foot slipped off the brake petal for a second that's all it took. My dad won't let me touch the van again for months although I could drive our other car. I think he was scared the insurcance would skyrocket so much I wouldn't be able to pay it if I happened to have another crash. Hopefully your car is repaired quickly. Driving and sometimes accidents are the only way to get expereince. even if you'd rather avoid them.Wink

    Re: Vehicle Accident

Thanks everyone.  Our van is a write-off so we'll have to see about getting something else probably.  So far I'm not sure what will happen with my sister.  She has driven since (kind of the fall off the horse, get back on mentality) and did well.  My arm is healed although you can still see where the scrapes were.  It almost looks like a bruise but it isn't.  Hopefully it doesn't scar too bad!
