    Skin So Soft for horses?????

So I am sure that you have all heard of skin so soft from Avon.  I heard that this is great at repelling flies and mosquitoes..has anyone else heard about this?  And if so...how do you apply it...is it diluted?? Thanks!

I think it works better for mosquitoes and ticks than flies. Just depends on what sort of "recipie" you want to use for dilution. There's a post from another member on here that has her "yearly barn tips" up and has some good "recipies' listed, some use Skin so soft. Try them! She has lots of great tips in there.

Just a word of warning to test a small patch on your horse first --- regardless of how little Skin-so-Soft is added to the recipe.

It cost me a HUGE vet bill years ago when my black Morab broke out hives almost as big as the vet bill wasCrying

Probably a rare occurrence, but nonetheless, it can happenSmile

I've never used it as a fly spray, but works really well on getting pine tar out of their hair. Or getting those burrs out of the mane.  If your horses are around pine trees you know how impossible it is to get that sap out of their hair! But the skin so soft works wonders.

The Avon Skin-so-soft... I think it works better than show sheen for manes and tails. It also works well as a solution to soften the skin around the privates of mares especially to clean off the "yuck" if you get my drift! My mare is really quiet if I put A solution if two parts water to one part skin-so-soft on about fifteen min. before I wash her. No chafing or scrubbing involved. Just wipe!!

    That was me! Big Smile

I have a small bottle and use it on myself, mostly when doing yard work, and I also have the skin lotion that I use regularly that seems to keep the bugs away. I keep forgetting to bring the small bottle out to use on Bennett. I don't think of it since it would take the whole bottle to spray her once! Lol! I did have the one recipe with the ACV (apple cider vinegar) until a horse made the bottle fall and break! Super Angry For the, what. . .1 time I used it before bottle broke, it looked like it worked! Stick out tongue

     1.

I have used a combination of 1/3 Avon Skin So Soft and 1/3 Citronella Fly Spray (the really expensive stuff that is about $50 per gallon. not concentrate stuff) and 1/3 water.
Works well on my guys plus the Skin So Soft makes them very soft!!

    2.

In a standard one quart or one liter spray bottle, mix the following ingredients:
    - 2 cups Avon Skin-So-Soft
    - 2 cups water
    - ½ cup cider vinegar
    - ¼ teaspoon oil of citronella* (*you can eliminate this or reduce the amount if it seems too strong)
    Shake before every use

    3.

    - 2 c. white vinegar

    - 1 c. Avon Skin So Soft

    - 1 c. Water

    - 1 tbps. Eucalyptus oil

Directions: Mix ingredients together in a spray bottle. Apply to horse before riding or turning out. It will wear off as horse sweats so reapply as needed.
