They are mustangs.  After Lily has had a few months training she will be going to live with Flakemusic if everything works out like it is planned.

They are getting quite spoiled.  They expect everyone who comes to the pen to bring them either hay or feed.Smile

I haven't been able to do much with them this week.  I have been recovering for the trip and last night I was at the emergency room until 2 am because my friend Adam got in a car wreck.  He is Ok but in trouble because he was drinking.  Bad bad badSad

Oh yeah I have started calling Miss Kitty KitKat.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about Adam. Is he doing all right? Was anyone else involved in the car crash?

I love the name Miss Kitty KitKat. So cute.

And Ms. Kitty's roman nose ?  Here in the draft horse country of central PA, you come to love and appreciate those big noses :)  They're usually attached to very sweeeeeet hearts :)

Roman noses are very prominant (pun intended, hope i spelled it right!) in the foundation bred Apps, too.  Mine has one and it fits his personality perfectly!

There may be Roman noses in some lines of foundation Appaloosas, but those lines that had the misfortune of having being bred to draft horses after the Nez Perce wars.  There are many other foundation lines that don't have the draft influences, such as the Roman nose.  Mine are foundation bred and I've seen some other foundation lines, and not a Roman nose to be seen.  So the Roman nose isn't a characteristic of foundation Appaloosa lines.

Geez.  I didn't say EVERY foundation bred app has a roman nose.  i don't know how you got that out of my post; but let me put it this way, just for posterity's sake:

A LOT of foundation bred Apps have roman noses.  There, better?

And I didn't say that NO foundation lines didn't have Roman noses.  I was merely pointing out that those particular foundation lines were from when the Nez Perce were forced to cross with draft horses.  There were foundation lines that managed to excape that fate and don't have Roman noses.  How about SOME, but not all foundation lines or foundation bred Appaloosas have Roman noses?

In any case the first discription of the Appaloosa by Lewis and Clark was that they compaired favorablly to fine English coursers, which to me would indicate a strong resemblence to the early TB or Arab.  That is what the foundation lines I've seen have looked like, no draft influence.   There are those who when they see 'foundation Appaloosa' they think Roman nose, I'm simply pointing out that not all foundation lines have Roman noses.  And as the Roman nose is not an Appaloosa characteristic, the breeders of the lines with it, should be trying to breed it out.

FM and Cheyaut:  Adam is fine.  But he is in trouble.  One other car was involved in the crash.  He hit them and the guy in the other car got his arm broken.  I think the other car was messed up pretty bad.Sad

TXSpots:  I think it is going to fit Kats personality well too.  She is going to be very sweet once she gets over being scared.

    Re: Miss Kitty and Lily

Thank you so much Anni.  I do alot of praying for Adam myself.  Thats all I can do besides let him know that I am there for him no matter what.

And back to the original purpose of this thread:

I went on a ride today.  We were supposed to stay tonight and ride again tomorrow but Sharon was getting sick so we came home.  We got home about five so I decided that I would work with Lily a little.  I put a lead on her and started halter training.  She was quite against it at first, rearing and bolting but only for a few minutes.  Once she calmed down I was able to get her to make a few steps.  Then I just dropped the rope and let her drag it around.  She didn't even run from it and when she did step on it she immediatly backed up and released the pressure.  She is so smart.  While she was doing that I went and got a bucket with some grain in it and when I got back she came right up and let me grab the lead.  I let her eat some feed and then I started leading her and letting her have a bite after every step.  A few minutes later I could lead her 10 or 15 steps between bites and she didn't mind.  When I turned her loose she didn't even walk away, just stood by me wanting to be scratched.

And Kat made some great progress today too.  She ate hay right out of my hand.  Very hesitantly at first but I kept talking to her and she got pretty relaxed.  I didn't even try to pet her, that will come later.  I just want her to associate me with good things like a full belly.

I have friends just like this, and I often feel like I am in the exact situation. I love them and they are such good, smart people, but it is so frustrating when they give up on themselves.

Lily sounds smart! I love how quickly she figures things out. Thanks so much for the update.

I love the nickname Kat, it really suits her.
