There is no Pus or signs ofinfection, just the continual drainage. My vet says its nothing toworry about, But since this is my very first big would ever, I am, Iwould like to hear from you if you have had an injury that has been sutured on your horse and continually drains, fluid.. thanks Well today its draining an ORange Thick Sticky serum, What is it? Re: Excesssive Draining wound

Draining out is good. Its' when it drains inside that there's more of a chance of infection. Just try to keep it clean and I suggest putting vasaline under the wound where it's draining so it won't stick to her coat.

Agreed, draining is good, but you do want to put something like vaseline or swat below the wound, the draining fluid can burn the hair it runs across.

    Re: Excesssive Draining wound

Thanks going to get the vasiline today, I have kept the coat super clean where the drainage is, becuase of flys and dust and debri. Today the wound looks like it did a lot of less drainage over night.. The drainage originally did cluster into a ball  under the cut, but after 3 days of massage it went away, I still massage her lower chest area 2 times aday.. Thanks for all your help..

Re: Excesssive Draining wound is now sticky Orange

So Dakotas Wound looked great but Sunday it starting dripping a very thick Orange Fluid that is like candy, coating the wound and the stitches.  It almost looks like the body is trying to create a scab, But the stitches are still in there. Any thoughts?

Again it sounds like normal healing but take her temp just in case. If it's elevated she could have an infection. Keep the wound clean and you may have to actually pick it off with your fingers to get it off the stitches. You need to keep them (stitches) clean until they are removed. She is moving around so it kinda keeps things moving around causing it to drain more. I went through all this in January with my girl.
