    Barrell Horse

          I have recently acquired a filly. My atempt wil be to try training her at barrell racing.

    I am needing info on what should i do with her to get her started. She is At 2 yr.old on the 20thof tis month Jan. 08

    hopefully come spring I can start her in doing what she needs to do. She is well bred top and bottom.Top Skipper W

    First off, start her just like any other horse.  She must have a good solid basic foundation before she begins training as a barrel horse.  Most important, start her SLOW on the barrels.  Lots of walking, trotting, and some lope before you ever ask her for speed.  Barrel racing is very hard on a horses hocks, and a baby can't take to much before she is fully grown.  Also, speed too soon can cause anxiety in a young horse.
