Someone mentioned they have English to Western adaptors. Anyway ever try this?? Does it work well???
I have used them and they are much easier. You will need to buy the western sircingle that fits down through the top of the saddle and the aussie to western converters. http://aussiesaddle.com/girts_and_girthing_systems.html I have ridden in several aussies saddles and liked them ok but I prefer my bareback pad (I finally found one that does not slip). What I would do is make sure he has a halter on under his bridle and everytime he wanted to stop I would get down and lunge him in several circles both ways and then back him up in the direction he doesn't want to go in. Then if he still wouldn't go when I got back in the saddle I would do the same thing again until he was focusing to me. Alot of young horses or nervous horses will get distracted on the trail and it is almost like you can see them getting more and more distracted and worried

At least you know he was really sore the next day. Sadly I bet the horse was too. :( I cant believe he would have the audacity to smack that horse after all it put up with with his pathetic riding.

Pheonix does not like Armadillos. He pops straight up in the air when they bounce, LOL. And Missy is my spooky girl. She is deathly afraid of .................................... SQUIRRELS, LOL. But she thinks she loves skunks and will try and follow the when we see them on the trail.

I am in on the coast in Texas too and honestly you will probably not need to blanket much unless your horses have been stalled alot and dont grow a winter coat. Keeping hay in front of them free choice is great all the time but especially in the winter. If we do end up having a wet rainy winter they will definetly need that shelter so they wont get wet and cold.

This may sound odd but have you checked local pawn shops. Around here there are at least one or two in every shop. Some will let you take them and try them on your horse. With the economy down so are prices.
Do you like to be called names? Don't refer to your horse as lazy.
WOW I must be a horrible horse owner. I call my horses names all the time In fact Missy's nickname is Fat Girl. Maybe I should just call her weight challenged. Do you think she would feel better if I did?
(the rice bran pellets are $31
Are you buying them from Tractor Supply? I used to then I found out that one of the smaller feed stores that I go to has it for $7.50. That is a huge price difference and they are the same pellets just in different packaging. So check around, big companies charge for their name as well as the brand name of the product. Dont get me wrong I love TSC but I know they are overpriced alot of the time.
