  • Re: circle y flex tree

I couldn't agree more...and yes, its a big horse! 1250 lbs of big horse! My primary concern with the flex tree is that since my husband is a good sized guy, that perhaps the flex tree would flex too much and cause the horse discomfort. I am more worried about the horse than I am my husband, for sure! I am looking at a Circle Y because I believe their FQHB saddles are pretty wide, and would accomodate our big guy. But, I don't want the flex tree to be an issue, either, and it seems all the

  • circle y flex tree

I am looking for a new saddle for my husband who is a big guy...is there any reason we should not consider a circle y flex tree saddle? My concern is that the saddle would flex too much under a heavy rider and be uncomfortable for the horse. Any reason to worry about this? Thanks!

  • Re: Your experiences with rescue horses?

I am an experienced rider/handler, however, I have never taken in a rescue and want to think this through all the way before I do. I appreciate hearing how others' experiences have been. One of the hardest "what ifs" for me to accept is what if I take her, and she never gets to the point where she can even act like she likes me a little? I've had a horse (an ex racehorse) in the past that could never and would never show any affection and didn't like people at all...that made

  • Your experiences with rescue horses?

I am considering taking in a rescue horse. This horse was rescued over 3 years ago from an abusive home, and has made a lot of progress and has become a pretty decent riding horse. She is not totally over all of her issues, and I'm wondering if that's even possible. I've never had a horse with an abusive history. Can a horse ever really fully recover, and can a horse ever really fully learn to trust people and even *like* people after suffering at the hands of a few? What do others think

  • saddle fitting for the thoroughbred type

I recently purchased an appendix qh. Although she is not a tall horse, she is definitely built more like a thoroughbred. She has a fairly prominent wither and is longer and leaner than the average quarter horse. Where is a good place to start with western saddle fitting? Should I start out looking for something with semi quarter horse bars? Anyone have good success with a certain brand or model of saddle with horses built like this?

  • saddle rehab

A friend of mine gave me a Stubben Portos I saddle that she's had stored at her house for years. She hasn't used it or even looked at it for probably 10 years (it was barely used to begin with). Considering that, the saddle has help up quite well. However, there is some mold on the saddle and it is rather stiff. I want to do my very best to get this saddle in the best shape I can...I mean...how often does somebody just drop a Stubben saddle in your lap?! What products do you recommend for

  • Re: improving coat condition

Thank you all for the advice. I had a vet come out to check her prior to paying in full, just to be safe. The vet suspects that she was wormy and though she has been thoroughly treated for worms, said there probably hasn't been enough time passed to improve her condition tremendously. She also mentioned the grooming...and I doubt this horse has been groomed much at all for a year or more. She is not too thin and appears healthy otherwise. The vet recommended a good coat/hoof supplement. I'm

  • Advice on selling a saddle

I have a saddle I need to sell, and I have a few questions. First of all, what have you found to be the best place to market the saddle? I have mine on craigslist but I wonder if there is any point in putting it on those larger nationwide horse classified sites like horsetopia, etc. Secondly, given that someone is likely to want to test the saddle, how do you make that arrangement? Do you ask for a deposit or do you have them pay you for it with the understanding that its returnable as long as it

What are some ways to improve coat condition in a horse, and what are some reasons for coats to be thin, dull, etc.?

  • laminitis--figuring out the extent of damage

I'm looking at a horse to buy/lease. The owner was up front with me and told me that the horse foundered several years ago. It was an acute case, and handled quickly. I know I can have the horse xrayed to determine the extent of damage, but are there any other ways to find out? And am I crazy to even consider buying a horse that has foundered one time in the past??
